NEXT PLC
At Next, one of the UK's largest home retailers renowned for beautifully curated interior collections, I joined as the Upholstery Expert in 2017. Responsible for developing new product ranges at their Leicester headquarters and newly established production facility in Doncaster. My role involved ensuring the upholstery range remained on-trend with the latest interior styles while staying commercially relevant to diverse customer tastes. I collaborated directly with leading upholstery manufacturers and development teams in the UK, Europe, and China, and contributed to Next's own upholstery manufacturing site and development team. Additionally, as part of the Furniture Design Team, I oversaw the design of Dining Tables, Dining Chairs, Accent chairs and Beds.
2014-2017
G Plan
As a Senior Designer at G Plan Upholstery Limited, I played a key role in the New Product Development team, spearheading the delivery of brand and design strategies aligned with business growth objectives. My responsibilities included ideation, design communication, presentation to retailers (DFS, SCS, Furniture Village, John Lewis), and board members. I supervised development, ensured quality assurance, maintained commercial awareness, and led material and component procurement efforts. I also represented the company at trade shows, coordinating with the marketing team, stylists, and stand builders.
2010-2011
Paul Stott Design
At Paul Stott Design, a furniture design consultancy serving commercial manufacturers and retailers such as Ercol, John Lewis, and CSL (now Sofology), I gained invaluable experience in market research, concept development, rendering, technical communication, and administrative tasks. As a key member of the team, I contributed to product development through rapid concept sketching, 3D modeling, rendering, technical drawing production, and client communication. Additionally, I immersed myself in learning the craft of cabinet furniture design, expanding my expertise and contributing to comprehensive design solutions.
2009
Thelermont Hupton
At Thelermont Hupton, a design studio renowned for their bold and lively furniture and products, I assisted with hands-on tasks such as building sketch prototypes and designing exhibition props. I also supported trade show activities, engaged with industry professionals and the public, and contributed to photography, graphics, and packaging design efforts.
